I have had some difficulties with my 2004 Hobie 16's batten setup for the jib. There doesn't seem to be any way to fasten them in. Normally I believe there is a grommet that you can thread a line through. My jib only has a line but no grommet. There is nothing in the battens that I could possibly thread through. I have no idea how you're supposed to keep the battens from falling out without the grommet hole. The sails are hobie sails. If someone could provide some insight on this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

All USA-made Hobie jibs have batten grommets. If yours was made in the USA, then it got past quality control somehow.

I think that at one time Hobie Europe made jibs with velcro straps, but I'm not sure when or for how long.

In any event, it's not hard at all to put them in. Any sail maker would do it for very little cost. You could do it yourself if you got the right materials and equipment. Like this: http://www.sailrite.com/Grommet-Spur-Nickel-0-1-4. The tools to install them are listed on the side.
