Replace with a hex head bolts. Round head slot screws almost always strip out here. Same with rudder adjusters and rudder cross bars. Not sure why Hobie uses slot screws anywhere. Once they seize up you're screwed...no pun!

My first post! I purchased a '18 H16 from craigslist for $2,300.00 a few weeks back. It came with new Mesh tramp, great trailor, new trap lines and harnesses and rigging. Had it checked out by Hobiecats North West and they said it was in amazing shape. And with that, I spent about $300.00 on new rudder cams, pins, springs, plugs and bridal wires, halyards, yada yada yada. My problem this morning is that I can get my Bow Tangs aparts as the nut appears to be fused to the bolt. Do I just drill it out? Tried liquid wrench but all I got was stinky hands. carefully use a large screwdriver force the bow tang to open Might be time to replace with a new tang Throw the old ones in the Hobie hell box for emergency use I use SS bolts with ss nylock nuts wherever possible This has worked for me Former Hobie Admiral Gary |

Cut the head of the bolt off with a cutoff wheel on an angle grinder. Be careful of generating too much heat (don't burn the fiberglass). Time for a new bolt/nut and maybe a tang. |

I would replace it. It's not worth the risk. |
