Does anyone have any experience in mounting a GoPro camera on their 16? Either good or bad ideas would be appreciated.

I had a suction mount and mounted it as far forward on the bows as I could. I tied a safety line to it but it was very solid.

Other ideas I have seen that I would like to try:
-mast mount looking down
-boom mount looking forward

I just used a small bolt with a nylock to attach a gopro arm right to the forestay adjuster.
Super slick and easy. The small end of the gopro arms are a perfect squeeze fit into the adjuster.

I have done the same as Hobiesrock. I also bought the floatie back for the GoPro in case something happens I will have some chance of retrieving it.

I went with the adhesive mount on the hull last season. Not the best, but easy to jump on the hull and spin it around.

I also mount my GoPro camera to the forestay adjuster, but I believe the way hobiesrock does it is simpler than the way I do it. I'll try it his way next ime.
I believe the best place to mount the camera is on the forestay adjuster. It's about the right height and with 170° wide angle you capture everyone on both sides of the boat; even when trapped out.

Thanks to everyone for the input. Sounds like mounting it on the fore stay adjuster is easiest and provides excellent coverage of the whole boat.

After watching optikid's hobie 16 pitchpole video, I think you should try the masthead, probably the coolest angle you can get.

Another place that I have seen a gopro mounted was the tiller crossbar. It gives a great view from the rear of the boat and looks cool with it moving while you steer.

Eaberg - Lots of great ideas here as to where and how to mount it. That's some of the nicest features of these small, waterproof digital cameras. Just use your imagination and be innovative. If a picture or video doesn't come out the way you like it, just delete it and start over. Since it's wide angle (170°) Just point and shoot and you'll probably capture everything you want. I'm sure you'll get some great videos and hope you'll share them with us.

Would anyone be willing to post a picture of how they attached the gopro to the forestay? I have mine on the bow but it takes a beating up there. Much thanks

I also have a question about how people are attaching these. Optikid, you could probably answer this, how did you attach to the mast head? I may be borrowing a friend's gopro for my next sail.

They sold those back in the day. Would be ez to make some up out of 1/4" round bar. Pretty simple. I can get some pics if you want em.
