I have a 1979 hobie 16 with the old jib traveler cars that include the cam cleat right on them. My faithful crew was having trouble unjamming them, and I've learnt that there is a newer, better design. Is it easy enough to upgrade? ie, can the new jib sheet car go in the old track, and can I just rivet or screw on the swivel cleat base pad?

Here are the old and new systems, respectively, snarfed from ebay photos:

Is there a simpler/cheaper alternative? Is anyone shipping these to Canada?

I should also note, that my current jib sheet cars are not staying in place when travelled out.

Cheers,
Alejandro

Not worth trying to do cheaper and simpler, you will still end up with issues if you don't do it right. I changed mine a few years back and went with the low profile Harken cars and never regretted it once - way way way better than original system. Go for the change and bank the happiness gained not the cash saved! :D

Alejandro- are your travelers fried? I'm looking for a starboard replacement- one of my cams popped off and sank into the drink last fall and I've been searching for a replacement since...
