After a bit of looking around, I find the motor mount threads are getting old, and many pictures are now broken links. I would like a cheap alternative to a cheetah, and I'm looking for ideas and advice. Have a 1979 Hobie 16.

Here is my favourite thread on the topic:
http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=15050

Specific questions:
- What if I capsize and dunk a motor (while it is not running, clearly)? Will it run afterwards?
- Electric or gas?
- How far will a little gas motor get me on a built-in fuel tank? An electric motor and battery?
- How can I make the bracket / mount? Can I bend the mount parts from thick steel sheets? Like in the other thread, above?
- Where can I get some of the pictures in XxTrasHxX's post in that thread?

Thanks for your thoughts.

my 25 year old 3 hp merc still runs like new the 1 quart tank will run for over an hour at half throttle running full throttle just makes more noise and not much faster the motor has been under salt and fresh water running and not running a few pulls on the starter usually gets it going I carry an extra quart in a camping alumniun fuel bottle This should be good for many many miles Dont know about home made mount I have the Cheeta mount and other than replacing the ss bolts it has been perfect
Note my 21 SE carries the motor high above the water my 15 used to carry it low and the motor was more subject to going over
A new electric with a new Li ion battery would probably work great
