I recently bought a 1981 Hobie 16. The hulls need a few coats of paint, and I was wondering what kind of paint I should use. I was told to use a 2 part epoxy, but I don't know what brand. I looked at Interlux's Primekote epoxy. Would that work? What about a polyurethane?

Thanks,
Dan

A few coats??? Heavy. If you can't buff them, I'd use interlux brightsides, one coat close to the same color. Hard work to get it nice. Perfection (interlux 2 part) is overkill. I would aim for buffing what you can and maybe paint a below-water section only.

Before you do anything else, take a look at the bottoms of both hulls. How much wear and tear is on them from being dragged across sand? Do you need to add some thickness to them?

Is the boat stored on land or in the water. In the water and you need bottom paint for the lower hulls. And gelcoating might be your better option. There's lots of options and information, both on this forum and other places. You need to do some looking around.

Best of luck,

How thick are the bottom of the hulls (Hobie 16) . I'm on sand always. Also where can I get pics of t-handle assembly?
