Hello Everyone

I just wanted to hi to the community as well as introduce myself.
I'm Steve from London UK and I just purchased my first Hobie Cat .... Actually my first boat!
After many years thinking about it and being otherwise preoccupied I finally took the plunge.
The Cat is dated from around 1984 from my understanding.
I just need to take my armchair sailing experience and put it into practice ;-)

One thing I would like to ask at the get go is were can I purchase or what could I use in place of the mast step teflon bearing as I have been informed that it was lost in transit?

Here are some picture:

Welcome to the party and a lovely boat.

You can cut up a plastic bottle (milk, water, orange juice), although the inserts are cheap, and a good chance to visit your local Hobie shop and not spend a ton of money. But the Hobie shop can give you lots of information and possible contacts.

Best of luck,

Jim Clark-Dawe

Welcome
a brass coin works also
And if you have the time and the tools cut a golfbal in two and remove most of the innerside

I you don't have a local dealer that you can get to I've had good luck buying parts online from vendors like 'backyardboats.com'. I assume they could ship to the UK and small items like that bearing should have a relatively small shipping cost.

Congrats on your purchase, looking beautifull !

Here in Japan, we use a 10¥ (brass/copper) coin instead of the teflon mast bearing. Works great, kids like to have it after being used.

Enjoy the boat,

Back when they were in circulation, a 50 cent piece made the best mast bearing.
