Just dropped a neighbor's kid off at summer camp near the Chesapeake where they have two older Hobie 16s (I didn't get a chance to see them but I will). Apparently one is out of commission with a torn tramp; probably sun-rotted because I assume they live outdoors year-round. Anyway, there must be someone here who has an old vinyl tramp lying around after upgrading to mesh, right? If so, let me know and I will forward that info to the sailing director.

I will probably take my '78 there in a week or so for the summer, and maybe forever. Typical church camp; not much of a budget, and I bet the boats will never see use in heavy winds.

I just checked one (circa 1982) I had in the garage for several years but I think it is too far gone. Very brittle. Don't want to see any kids imperiled.

I have one, it has a small spot that could be an issue, but easily patched.

Can you cover shipping?

Mine is from an 88 H16. Yellow, or once was yellow.

At the moment I'm not inclined to cover your shipping; it's not for me and I'm not associated with the camp. I'm just a donator like anyone else might be; I'll probably have donated a H16, several hours of repair time and 250 miles trailering before long. But I can ask the camp if they would cover it. No hiking straps are probably not a problem but if it already needs repairs it's probably not a worthwhile donation.

There are probably similar camps closer to home for any of you who would incur too much in shipping. I'm guessing that a complete tramp fits into a 12x12x12 box and weighs about 15 pounds? Don't know for a fact.

I have piles of stuff (no tramps or sails), NOS and used, from a closed dealership. Let me know if they, or any other worthwhile camp needs anything.

Wow, thanks! I am currently thinking I will be there this coming weekend and will inspect the other two boats then. I'll let you know what I find.

FYI I am talking about Camp Piankatank: http://camppiankatank.org

Not sure if I will make it to the lake this weekend, if I do I would look my old one over and send if it is ok.

FWIW I was at the camp this weekend and took a look at their other two H16s. The newer one (85 I think) had adjustable rudder castings, solid mast, and the hulls looked decent from the outside. Its tramp is shot, too: hard and severely checked from sun exposure. The older boat with the torn tramp is pretty rough. Transom damage on one hull, split gelcoat on the other. My recommendation to them was to focus on the '85 and use the other one for parts.
