Been having a gallon or more water in my port hull after sailing.
Finally got around to doing a leak test. I used a cheapo 12v raft inflater that I had positioned a bit a way from the drain plug so as not to over pressurize the hull.
Went around with some soapy water. Did not find much and was about to give up. Then dribbled some soapy water around the shroud anchor point on the hull lip...BINGO! Air was just blasting out of there. Did not expect that to be the spot as that hole is just through the lip...or so I thought.

So...I pulled the shroud anchor out and could see a void in the layup down in the hole. Think its been leaking there since it was new in 1980. That would explain the copious amounts of silicone all around the pylons...betting the PO was trying to chase that leak.

Anyways...to repair. Taped over the bottom of the hole so epoxy would not dribble out. Then filled the hole with g-flex epoxy and applied suction to the drain plug again with my trusty 12v raft inflater (on the intake) held a bit away from the drain hole. That sucked most of the epoxy into the void. Then mixed up some thickened epoxy (cabosil) and filled it up again and sucked some more in. Let it cure up and clean the hole up with a drill and hopefully NO MORE LEAK!

Nice! I can imagine that's a very satisfying feeling.

I'm about to go through the same process on my boat which is taking on too much water at the moment. Good to know I should check the shroud anchors - probably would have taken me ages to think of that one!

Thanks for sharing!

Yup that was the last place I expected. And it has cured my leaky hull 100%. Nice not having water pour out when I pull the drain plug!

My friend found the same leak at his port side shroud anchor. He temporarily fixed it by loading up the hole with 5200 before screwing the anchor down.

Last weekend I found a leak in both hulls of my 18 which nearly sank the boat. So I went ashore, drained the hulls and put in the hull plugs. Now they're dry.
