I have a 1983 H16 and I want to replace the corner castings. I've sound some new style corner castings but I have a couple of questions. My boat has the 1/2" bolt while I think the new castings take a 3/8". Do people bore out the hole, or do you they use a shim or something inside the pylon? Next question is in regards to actually getting the casting on. I seem to recall reading that the newer castings were tapered? or are the newer pylon's tapered? Or should I just not be that worried about it? And final question is do I need to worry about the crossbars at all? Thanks, Jim |

I'm not even sure if the new castings are compatible with older hulls. Hopefully someone that knows will chime in. |

Any idea how "new" your casting are? They have changed a few times so that is probably important info. If nothing else post some pictures and someone might be able to tell what you have. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 4 Beta |

Turns out the castings are for the old style non integrated track beams but they do have the 3/8" bolt hole. I was told the castings that work with the old track on top beams won't work with new castings and vice-versa. Appearantly when he said new he meant NOS. I have a step drill bit that I've used when making holes in kegs for brewing. I'm assuming same technique on the castings? Secure casting inside my drill press and then lower bit slowly, lots of oil and get to 1/2. Was really interesting securing a keg on my press and I have a big old 1933 17" Delta drill press from an old machine shop that went out of business with a huge table attached to it. Anything I should be aware of in drilling the casting? |

I replaced one 3/8 bolt on my Hobie with a old 1/2 when the casing was slipping a bit up and down... Just did it with a hand drill the material is really soft.... |

thanks, should be pretty straightforward than. I just realized that when I took my frame apart that the crossbars just slipped out of the castings. I hadn't thought much about that until now. The rivets are actually in the casting but I guess they just completely missed the crossbars! But they missed every single one all around the boat because none of the crossbars were held in by a rivet. I'll rivet the new castings in next year at the start of next season when I epoxy the whole damn thing together. |
