Has anyone experimented with making their own jib battens out of fibreglass from the hardware store. The wind has been blowing and I wanna rig something up while i wait for a proper set to come in.

Cheers.

Yes! You can cut out battens from a thin fiberglass sheet. But we have done this for our 470 and 420 not for Hobie. I won't recommend doing this for a Hobie cat sail.. since the entire sail shape depends on the stiffness of the battens.

I lost a couple of original jib battens and being based in the UK I found it difficult to source originals.
The local chandler sold me some 15mm batten which I cut to length and endcaps.
They work just fine.

In a pinch, any stiff material will do (oak molding?), but fiberglass is preferred as it won't break on the first tack dragging across the mast.
