I'm new to sailing. I just bought an older 16. My purchase included 2 complete boats. One of the boat's pontoons are in terrible shape. I plan to strip it of hardware and trash it.
Anyway, the boats came with many spare parts.
One, is a stainless support tube/bar that the seller says goes between the two pontoons and attaches at the bow where the bridle wire attaches. It has a slight bend to it. He said it supports the pontoons and keeps them more stable. It does not take the place of the bridle wire. What is this bar called? Does anyone use them?
Thanks for any help,
Greg

That would be called a spreader bar. Not Hobie made. Maybe designed to support a delaminated bow from failing. Never seen one used on a Hobie 16. We do have them on some other models and made from aluminum.

Welcome to the world of Hobie sailing!

First rule when it comes to Hobies...

... is an evil word. Those two banana shaped things that keep the boat afloat are called hulls. :D

This is a pontoon boat -- but not a Hobie...
