Post subject:  Sanding hulls

I'm sanding the hulls of my 1984 Hobie 16 in preparation for a fresh coat of paint...I was able to remove an adhesive stripe using a hair dryer, but the lower 1/3 of each hull is green and does not respond to sand paper or the hair dryer. It doesn't seem to be paint and I'd guess that it is another adhesive - possibly meant to protect the bottom portion of each hull from dings and scrapes when beaching.

Is anyone familiar with what I'm talking about? Should I figure out a way to remove it before repainting?

There are parts of the green patch that have worn down and show the white hull beneath...

Thanks for your help,

Gabe

Post subject:  MYSTERY GREEN PAINT

Sounds like it might be bottom paint. Was the boat ever kept in the water?

Post subject:  Mystery Green

Not sure if it was kept in the water or not - I'm the 3rd owner to my knowledge.

I'm hand sanding this bad chicken - think I should do my best to sand through the mystery green?

Thanks,

G
