Depends on the state. In kansas , nope. Missouri, yes.

You will have to check your own state law to know

If I remember correctly, Florida has a 16' rule on titles. So the hobie 16 is in a grey area and no one actually titles their cats.

If you find one that does not have a title you could get one that is trashed and use that title for the boat that does not have one. We took our old boat that was trashed and put new hulls on it and just etched our old hull number in the new hulls. That's what they used to do back in the day if u cracked a hull you could just buy a blank hull and etch ur number in. Our race boat is a 81 with one hull that is 86 that has the hull number reetched cuz it was t boned in a race and another hull went through it. But that's if you need a title. I know in California people have junk boats on craigslist for almost nothing. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I found a 1984 16 for sale for $500. I was checking around to see what all I would have to spend to bring it up to snuff. It ended up selling before I could go look at this afternoon.

No hulls leave the factory without a serial number, whether it's original or a replacement hull. People didn't just "etch ur number in."

Jesus, I hate text speak in forums. Is it so hard to type "you" or "your"?

But some hulls have left the factory with incomplete hull numbers (i.e no year). I have two...

Jim

That is true - my 17 doesn't have a year on the hull #.

1cjk,

I am not sure where in NW Florida you live, but I live in Panama City Beach, FL.

If you are looking a for good used cats, used parts for cats or someone who is an expert in fiberglass repairs, consider Pat Martin, owner of Starboard Marine in Panama City Beach. Also Brad Stephens, owner of Sunjammers Watersports is our Hobie distributor in Panama City Beach.
