There is the number 636 etched on the top of the stern, behind non skid on my 1982 H16. Only on port hull. Any idea what it means, Thank, Rick

I'm not sure, but likely etched into the mold, so on your boat an "outie"? I'd guess a mold number of some kind, to identify issues related to specific molds at the time. There were a lot of them back then.

No, its etched the same as serial no. Number is either 638 or 63S between non skid and transom lip. Just curious, Thanks

I have noted a similar 3 digit number on my H-14. I assumed it was a previous owner's but maybe not...

I would think it would depend on the country's regulations regarding serial numbers at the time (if there were any). That's what prompted the change in 1973 from 4-digit serial numbers on the pylons (which are presumably sequential) to the CCM####M##X format in the USA that identifies the manufacturer (CCM - Coast Catamaran), the serial number (####) and the model year & month of manufacture (M##X). The format is similar today.

The first boats had serial numbers on the pylons and were only made in California. It wasn't until the late 70's or 80's that multiple manufacturing locations came into play. Serial numbers have nothing to do with this specific topic. The three digits on the deck are not a serial number.
