more questions...

here is the setup on my boat. there is the traveller, the seperate cam cleat attached to the tramp frame, and a small loop of metal (sorry i don't know what it's called) attached to the tramp frame directly in the center behind the traveller.



now, this is the set of blocks that came with the boat. there is one single block, one single/beckett block, and a double block attached to the top of a ratchet block which has a cam cleat on it.





my question here, and i really hope the answer is yes, is, can i make a main sheet system out of this?

Only if you add about 44' of line.

But seriously, it looks like you might be missing a couple of shackles to hang blocks from the boom. And I don't see a clevis pin to connect the lower blocks to the traveler.

Assuming all the sheeves turn, the cam cleats work and the ratchet works, you appear to have all the major pieces.

i have the clevis pin, you just can't see it in the photo. everything seems to work fine, and yes, i'm missing one shackle for the single/beckett. would anyone mind explaining how to rig this particular system? for instance, do i hang the single/beckett from the front boom hanger or the back (i have two on my boom)? and is the double block supposed to be attached to the top of the ratchet block? also, where to i run the line? thanks, by the way.

Looks like everything is there, you should be able to find some decent diagrams of how to rig it on this website somewhere. What I actually did when I got the new boat was look at some really high quality photos online of them and then just started messing around until it came together!

i've looked all over the place, and i can't find any pictures using this setup. all i did was get more confused, because the ones i could find had the ratchet block seperate, some tied the rope to the beckett thing, some tied them to the loop of metal on the tramp frame...it just goes on like that.

From the becket on the single block mounted on the boom
down through the double block
back up though block with becket
down through the double block
back up through the single without becket on boom
down through the lower single rachet block and out through the cleat

You'll have to play with this until it looks right, I can't remember whether the becket block goes in front or back.

Then take the end and

route through the swivel cleat
(through the cleat first and then through the eye)
through the rollers on the traveller car
through the eye strap from fore to aft with a figure eight knot to the rear of the eye

Oh, and attach the lower blocks to the top of the traveller with the clevis

just a side note, make you knot as small as possible on the tag end of the line so you can sheet in tighter if need be, which with this block set you should be block to block!

Another note-

If you put the becket block at the back, you will probably (possibly) be able to sheet a little tighter.
