Hi everyone I have been sailing hobies for 5 years or so and I have had several boats from the 80s, but the newest one has me stumped. It is an 81 Hobie 16 and the tramp frame is not Square? The rear cross bar is 3 in shorter than other boats in the club lot. The rear sail track and everything is 3 in shorter. All of the parts look original, untampered with and are fitted together properly. Could that rear cross bar be from a hobie 14, or was that just how they were made in 81? it causes my tramp to make a V shape in the middle, the bottom does not touch. Im not to concerned about it, and I have bigger fish to fry on this boat including some large soft spots :(. But I am very curious to see what you think. If you want precise measurements let me know and I will post them.

Thanks, Ryan
If you sail in Oklahoma look for the Spirit of 76 Sails that's me.

Sounds like someone put a 14 cross bar on your boat! My 14 is right about 3 inches narrower than my 16. Not only would the tramp frame not be square, the hulls wouldn't be parallel. Probably comes with a big speed penalty on top of the tramp fitment issues!

Dave is probably right. My 81 H16 appears square, I can get a measurement for you in the morning

I just got a new cross bar! But to help the next guy the rail on a 16 is 73 in and a 14 is 70. The outside of the casting to the outside of the casting is 76.5 on a 14. Post to post on a 14 is 6 feet. I hope this helps someone. Thanks everyone!!!
