replacing mast base

I am new to the Hobie world. I bought a very old (1981) hobie last year and had great fun sailing it until I dropped the mast during rigging. The side stay had unthreaded during trailering, my fault I didn't even know you had to check that. No damage to the mast it just landed in the dune, but the base ripped out. I replaced it but now I cant step the mast because the forestay is too short. I have read a little and I understand this has to do with hobie changing the rake in the mid 80's. I believe I have to replace all the stays, maybe the bridle, and the foot. Just looking for any advice before I start ordering parts and drilling out rivets.
P.S. Its really embarrassing to drop the mast.

New forestays are longer. You can also add an extra 10 hole adjuster. They are just for holding the mast up when the sails are not up... you could use rope if you had to.

That's it? I don't have to replace the mast step to match the new base?

Since you replaced the base, you don't have to replace the step, but it would be an improvement. It could be the step link?

The base change would not effect forestay length (maybe ever so slightly), but doing as instructed to the extended forestay would correct that issue. You may simply have a shroud wire too low in the adjusters for the shrouds.
