Thinking about buying this 1978 Hobie 16 Orange Crusher and

Wanted some advice. I am thinking about buying this 1978 Hobie 16 Orange Crusher and wanted to know what you would pay for it. Zoom in close on the hull pictures especially around the very front under the rim their is a lot of evident cracking. He says he is the original owner and it has never been in salt water and no soft spots or wrecks. I guess he disassembled it for storage of which I was unaware of until seeing these pictures today and I will find out the story behind that. I have not seen it yet and will be traveling a considerable ways to pick it up thus the reasoning for the pictures. He is asking $1400 that is without a trailer. What would you pay? and any advice on the hull cracks at the underside front would be greatly appreciated or for that matter anything else you notice wrong with it.

The orange crusher color scheme is my personal favorite. With that said....

Without a trailer, $1400 seems a little steep to me.

The starboard hull looks to have some deck seam separation at the bow. Fairly easy to fix, but question is how it happened. What's the deck look like?

The main sail looks in good shape and so does the underside of the tramp frame - but you would expect it to since it's not exposed to the weather. What's the other side of the tramp look like?

The rudders and associated hardware are not nearly as nice - they've spent time outside with the hulls. The rudders are Lexan - and probably somewhat brittle at this point. After all, they're almost 40 years old.

$1,400 is a lot for this boat without a trailer. I've seen boats like this sell for half that.

If you buy a newer boat it should last for years and you will get your money back when you sell... not many like this...

If the boat in the previous link actually exists (I'm skeptical) it's a steal, and close to the O.P. Let us know how that turns out... and don't go sending money to Nigeria by Western Union.

Same as the other posters, I give it about $700, that should be the right price though I would definitely take a careful look at the cracking and also check if there are others that are not so noticeable. Again, if you can inspect it more, then you should be able to decide to buy it or not. To me though, it's an okay deal if it were half the price he's offering.
