Odd Serial Number Question and value guestimate

(hope this did not get posted twice - computer problems here!)

I sailed with a friend about 20 years ago a few times in competition on an H16, and loved it. Been thinking about getting back into it again as recreation.

A local charity will be auctioning off an H16 early next year. I have done some examination of the hulls, running gear, and such, and may or may not make a bid. It was last registered in 1991, comes with a trailer, PVC tube carrying the sails is fractured, the sails show signs of "shelfwear" (did not roll out, maybe tomorrow) . Hulls appear sound, and all of the running gear appears present, except the main block, which may be rolled up in the sails. The hulls show minor wear and scratches, some silicone sealer on the pylon posts/hull interface, and the tramp is tight without tears. I am sure that this has been sitting around most of it's life, probably outside.

Howerver - the serial number (rear of right hull) appears to be outside of the expected values - here it is

CCMR9914M836

The last "6" may be a "G"

Also - above the "83" is scribed in smaller numbers "612"

Not sure what it all means, but guessing this is a 1983.

As to value - if servicable H16's with trailers are worth $700-$1100, and replacing sails/rope/misc gear all cost $700-$900 New/$400-$600 used (or more), this poor boat may be worth $50 and a LOT of work, or become a parts boat.

Any advice or info appreciated.

The boat is certainly an '83 and the last symbol in the serial number is a "G."

If all the parts are there, the boat / trailer is still probably worth a couple hundred $ (Look on eBay for comps - they seem to get a lot of older boats for sale.)

This is not a boat for racing - nor should it even be considered a "handyman special." It's a good first boat or a beach boat used for recreation only.
