That's not old school - that's the way they all are.
The only change that's been made since that time is to make the track a little deeper and the wheels a little bigger (and made of brass, not stainless steel).
The problem with a Harken track/car (in addition to it not being class legal) is that there's
not enough friction in the system. If you are travelled out, and try to sheet in, more often than not you'll just pull the whole assembly towards you (as if you were pulling the traveller line).
It's a pain.
If you're hell-bent on replacement, you'd be better off replacing the track with the newer, deep profile track and a new, stock traveller car.
