I just bought a new mesh tramp to replace my 83's old vinyl one and Every one keeps talking about how easy it is to replace. Simply delace and slide the old one out and slide the new one in. This seems okay for the front crossbar which has a slot to insert the tramp. But as far as I can tell the side rails have to opening to the tramp groove. How the Heck do I get that thing in there?

There is a short section in the sidebar that is flaired open. Usually mounted at the forward end.

On my 83' the flare is at the foward section of the side rail. If you can locate the flare I would try to insert the tramp into the side rail first. I had taken mine off over the winter (vinyl tramp that is) and when I put it back on I found it much easier to put it in the side rail first. Then I folded it over (backwards) the side rail and then fed it into the crossbar.
