Hey Triggs, You're doing the absolute perfect thing to answer the questions that you've posted. Go to a Hobie Regatta! Just go around and introduce yourself to the sailors. You'll get a bunch of hands-on help! Hobie sailors are naturally helpful people and they love to talk about boats.
1. Yes, you need a special rivet and cap. And sometimes the standard rivet gun nose piece won't fit into the cleat.
2. A lot! Depends on the forestay you have, could be up to 6" slack
3. HMMM, Might need to adjust cleat angle. Ask one of the hobie sailors at the regatta to take a look.
4. Are the cleats working OK. What line diameter are you using?
5. Boat speed man. Don't pinch, just go fast.
Hope this helps!
