Hey - Anyone have any info on this conversion from an old pair of Stock Seaway blocks? I can't find anything on the net. See below from an older mast rake article. Note: If you're short on cash, See Roy Tally's Tech Tip on converting your old Seaways to low-profile. Slick!! |

Bommer I tried last year to find that article but was unable. I did see and read it a couple of years ago but I do not think its available anymore. |

Thanks Drej- I gave my 15 year old son my new low profile off my 14, for this 1984 16 we are making race ready for him. I'm going to hopefully use this modified seaway on the 14 till I feel like blowing some more cash. Bommer |

Good luck! I have a friend who did it and is using them. The only hiccup he ran into (other than chasing a few ball bearings) was the creation of a swivel, but I believe he now has a solution. I could ask him this weekend to take a picture of them and then post it for those that are interested. i just tried it today. i did the lower block the way the website said. but instead of using just the double block, i added a single block i had laying around. i worked out great. i belive now i have a 6.1. just remember you need 3.5 inch not 3 inch i made the mistake. |

Hello to all... I'm the friend Drej was referring to. As soon as I can figure out how to post pictures, I will. Any with suggestions on this – it would be appreciated. In the meantime, you can send me a private message and I will send them directly to you. I generally used the instructions above but I did make a couple of deviations. DEFINITELY DO ALL WORK IN A SHOE BOX OR OTHER SIIMILAR CONTAINER. I used a plastic tray that came with my cooler. This worked out really good because it was shallow enough to work in. One recommendation I would make is to use lock washers and regular nuts on the bottom blocks until you get the ratchet set how you like it. Once you put the blocks together, the ratchet angle cannot be adjusted. Once you get it set, you can switch over to self-locking nuts (which I like better because they have somewhat rounded edges) Two modifications to note… I used a modified (I flattened it slightly with a hammer to get it to fit) eye strap so I could tie off my main sheet to the blocks. An alternative is the product Drej linked to in his posting above. I probably won’t explain this too well but I used a Dremmel to grind out a recess in the top blocks so I could use a pin in the upper fitting used to join the two upper blocks (the picture can explain this better). This way I do not have to use a swivel shackle when attaching the blocks to the boom. This cut out 1†|

EdJoe, I'm really interested in doing this project with my old Seaways. As far as posting photos (what I did): -Create an account at www.photobucket.com (it's free) -Upload your pictures -After upload completes, find the text below your picture that says, "IMG code" mouse over it and click it. A tag should pop up that says, "copied" -Return the forum and write your post, within the body of the post, paste your code from the step prior. Basically you should see a text line that begins and ends with the HTML tag "IMG". -You can experiment to see how to arrange text before and after your picture. I'd like picture(s) of your project. Upon closer examination, it appears that my second single block is not the same diameter as the other single block. It doesn't appear to me that I'll be able to complete this conversion project. Now for plan B....err, now where did I put plan B? Regards, |
