I've been looking for a 16 or turbo 14 that's in good shape for a couple of years...Where are they all???? All I ever find are old junkers that have soft hulls, blown-out sails, and rusty trailers.

Dunno. I'm bringing my H16 to TX when I move there next month, but it's not for sale. ;)

Russ, I made the same experience looking for a Hobie 16 in o.k. condition in the Austin area. Lots of boats with soft hulls. Almost all the 70's boats are soft or repaired. There are few Hobie 16's from the late 80's or 90's. I found my Hobie locally for o.k. $ in solid condition with some upgrades like 6:1 harken, a hotstick and double trap wire. Try to find a boat that is from 84 or younger - those seem to have fewer problems with the soft spots.

There was a big export business for many years... perhaps also from your area. Tons were shipped to Europe and elsewhere.

Also, I think many people have them still, but don't activly try to sell.

mmiller, I find lots of "backyard" boats that the owners are willing to part with, but every one of them seems to have mushy hulls. "Back in the day" when I used to sail a lot (late 80's/early 90's), I would find boats in good shape for sale pretty frequently. In fact, when I was younger and moving around a lot I would usually sell my boat and buy another one when I got where I was going.

Anyway, I'm still looking!!!

I can afford to let go of my H16 in dallas. It still sails great, but it depends what you would call decent as it might not make par. if you are interested, post a reply and leave an email address
