 Hi y'all,

I am going to convert from my full boom to a boomlet.

I believe that the boomlet is just a cut down boom.

If this is true, could some helpful soul out there please let me know the length of the boomlet....without the end caps....

Also the distance for the location of the mainblock hanger.

TIA

Theres definitely more to it than just cutting down the boom.

The mainblock hangar is on a traveller so you can adjust the sheeting point on the fly. Also, you have to get the sail converted so theres a luff bolt rope on the foot of the sail for the boomlet to slide over.

Hi Maughan,

Thanks for the info, but I am after the "Boomlet" design, shown at top of the picture below with the fixed hanger, not the pre 1994 version with the traveller.

My 2002 sail comes with the luff rope for the Boomlet or Full Boom use.

I don't have the drawing for the boomlet, but basically it is a length of the original boom extrusion. It is just a little longer than the rope hanging from the sail. The block hanger would be in the same position as on your SE boom. Perhaps you can make a mark on the sail that is where the existing hanger is positioned. The boomlet has a traveler deck plate mounted on top at the rear. This pins to the existing clew plate. The end caps are "mostly" cosmetic. Without them you could gouge your scalp if you hit it.

The boomlet that I have is made from a H16's trampoline side bar. I don't know the length but it is the same as the bolt rope on the foot of the sail. It needs a hole for a pin that goes through the boomlet and the bolt rope to hold the boomlet in position. The hanger is farther forward than on the SE boom so the you have out haul when you sheet in. You will need to adjust the cleat farther up on the main blocks so the sheet can be cleated.

nige, I have a 1993 H-17 sport + SE . It has the boomlet you are seeking. I will take some pics and measurements when i get back from the outer banks in a week, soory about the delay.

It is a real simple extrusion.

Hope this helps.

Sam

Thanks Sam,

Your offer is what I was after in the first place, the length of the Boomelt and the location of the Block Hanger will be really appreciated.

Thanks very much

Nigel
