I am working on restoring a 1992 H17 Sport. The sail was trash (see the 'Sail Disposal' topic in this forum). I cut the boomlet off of the sail because I could not see any other way to remove it. The red end caps are riveted onto the traveler assembly. My question is, is this boomlet reusable on a new sail or will I have to buy the newer 1995-to-current boomlet along with a new sail?

This will not fit the current sail. The current sail is not reinforced to absorb the loads at the points where this track would be mounted. The new system and boomlet spreads the loads further apart and connects directly to the clew plate. |

Yes,as a matter of fact it WILL work on a new sail. All you need to do is slide that part on the little chunk of bolt rope on the clew of the sail,bolt a shackle to one of the three holes in the clew. Then take a soldering iron and melt small hole through the front hole in the boomlet. I will post some photos to show the process. Again, it can be done and it works very well. Hi, I had you same problem with HC17 mainsail boomlet, I mean I have to fix back the boomlet becouse ripped while sailng, uhug ! Please, can you explain and post/mail me your way/photos in order to to fix it ? ThankYOU !! Paolo / Vient'e Terra.

This needs to be sewn by a sailmaker. They would replace the rope section and reinforcements. The sail looks pretty trashed though. they may question the cloth integrity. |
