I am curious on how others attach their wind vane to a H17. I have a telocat that I use on my other boats but wont work on the 17???

You can use a cut down shroud adjuster instead of the shackle at the bridle/forestay connection. That will give you something to attach the Telo-cat to.

Problem is, that the connection is so high, you'll get a stiff neck looking at it.

The solution a lot of racers use is a lightweight rod (aluminum / fiberglass / carbon) that's attached to the bridle at a more reasonable height. It provides the platform for a wind vane.

You can see one in this photo:

I use a custom modified Winddex at the bridle vertex (light air, upwind) combined with 8-track tape on the bridle at eye level (downwind, all wind speeds).

Most of the time upwind, I sail the boat by feel. Don't need no stinkin' wind vane.

Most 17 racers use cassette tape on each bridle wire. I like to make the tape long enough that it almost reaches the opposite bridle. That way, when sailing downwind you can easily tell what your angle is by looking at the tail of the windward tape. For example, if it's pointing directly at the opposite bridle, you're at 90 deg.

Hey Andy, Bruce (aka Wrinklie) is coming to Saylorville, he's got a slick set-up on his boat that my words wont describe properly. We'll quiz him, I need to set up something on Paul's boat too.

Paul's in Ft. Collins, Colorado now getting ready for school, and besides, I don't have the comp-tip swapped out yet.
It'd be great to see John again, great sailor, hope he comes.
Good move coming to Wichita, always a good turn-out of 17's.
See ya'll at Rogers'
