What are the reasons/consequences for increasing or decreasing the downhaul tension? thanks! |

Hi... quite simply, the more downhaul, the more tension in the sail (i.e. more flat) which then in harder winds lets the boat to have more power forward. Compare this with the opposite, if you havent got any tension you would almost end up with a bag that forces the boat sideways instead of forward. |

Lots of downhaul also forces the top of the mast to bend off, allowing the top of the sail to spill air. |
