So, I'm not having much luck locating a boom for my newly acquired 1986 H17. Any chance I could modify a H16 boom and use it? Has anyone done this before?

The section is a lot larger and heavier, but I suppose it would work. You might have some problems at the mast end - it might interfere with the mast rotator. The rotator rides right on top of the stock boom.

You'd need to rig a different outhaul system - the sail needs to attach to the boom at the clew.

Still, you're better off using what was designed for the boat. Call around to different Hobie dealers - a lot of them have used parts.

Thanks, but I don't want to buy a $400 boom for my $500 boat. If I can't find one cheap, I'll just sell the boat and go back to sailing my H16
