I just finished up taking apart my 17 and tightening it up. I know the 17 isn't the stiffest boat on the water but how stiff can you get it? When i lift up one hull, the bottom of the other hull is about a 1/4 inch below the bottom of the raised hull. Is this normal and what are the ways to get the boat the tightest?

17's are inherently sloppy. Unfortunately, the design of the 17 really does not lend itself to a very tight boat- way too many parts/clearances that introduce slop, only two bolts per crossbar, and the crossbars are a very thin profile (does not lend itself well to torsional resistance).

If there's any question, pull the crossbars off and re-tighten the end caps (repair the holes in the end of the hull too if necessary). Assuming the end caps are tight, the best you can really do is keep the crossbar bolts and the tramp tight (unless you want to epoxy the crossbars to the hulls).

Yea I wish my boat was that tight!! 1/4 of an inch? That doesn't even seem possible.

Thats probably way exaggerated but i've epoxied the castings to the knuckle and epoxied the crossbars in. hopefully this has got it as tight as i can get it then. Thanks for the responses!
