Where in Delaware do you sail? We are H16 folks and sail in the Rehobeth Bay.

I'd love to get some impressions/ setup from you on your boat. We're looking to replace our 17 with an FX-1 up in at Clearlake.

my email is [email protected] if you get a chance, drop me a line.

Thanks

Berto

In Europe we sail the Fx with a lot of mastrake. In light to medium airs I use the fifth hole from the top of the forward shroud chainplate and in heavy airs with a swell I rake even further aft to third hole from the top on the chainplate of the forward shroud. I also vary shroud tension. In light to medium airs I use very little tension) but much more than on a Hobie 17 and in heavy airs I sail with pretty tight shrouds. For diamond tension I have apply a minimum of 1 cm prebend in the mast, using 5.5 cm spreader rake. In strong winds I simply tighten the diamonds even further to the point I can sail the boat flat.

This seems to work quite well, since I won the Cabanas Eurocup in Spain and can even compete on handicap with F18 and F20 cats like Tigers, Inter 20´s and the like.

Dirk,

I too am playing around with mast rake to make the boat rock. Have you done any work on the battens to increase draft? This boat really likes to go in heavy air and is really easy to sail when the wind is up. Once you find the groove, it just goes. It's a great boat and I hope more show up in the US. I would love to hear more tuning tips from you. Mast rotation, downhaul, etc.

Thanks for hopping on the forum. How did you do one on one against the f18s?

Post subject:  Wow- good dissertation on the FX Thanks to the Dukes

Tom and Terry-
I think I'm sold- I love my 17, I love my single sail plan, but, like most speed junkies, I am looking for faster. I am going to look into the FX based on your experience. (It sounds like you have had the same experience as my wife and I- only more so. Cool 8) )

Sail on sailors!
