Post subject:  Jib Furler Maintenance

I am replacing the standing rigging, and a few other things, on my H17 Sport . I remember reading on one of the threads about maintenance on the jib furler, which was designed not only to keep it working smoothly, but the replacement of the part that can break under stress.

I've done a search for this information and can't find it.

I seem to recall a video of someone rebuilding the furler, with a bunch of ball bearings on a table top.

I see a furler part on the H17 part sheet, costs about 250$. Is there a less expensive, rebuild option, what is it, and can you help me find the link?

Thanks,

Dan L

During your rebuild check the outer SS casing for cracks (especially at the bends), I had one fail and was demasted last year. My boat is a 2000, so it wasn't that old.

Yeah, that's what I remember.

Is that part replaceable separately, or does one have to replace the entire furler assembly?

thanks,

Yes, you can buy the furler yoke (part # 61980000) along with most of the other furler parts separately. A breakdown of the furler assembly is shown in the parts guide for the H18 http://www.hobiecat.com/sailing/part_diagrams.html
