In all the years of racing we did if the wind was under 10 it was though to keep up with the old Nacra 5.2's however you could beat them if every bit of skill set you had was used and used wisely. However, we always prayed for heavy air and double trap race days and when it did it was sure joy to see all the 18's out front walking away from the Nacra's, G Cats, Prindles, etc.... It would be great to see the 18 line back into production some day. They may be great boats however they won't last forever (darn near though) and we will need a new batch for all of us that love the 18.

For a Solo-er the 17 is easily the best choice. Remember, faster isn't just which boat you are sailing, but who is at the helm. Rudder and sheet control are very important, otherwise there would be a lot of ties at single design competitions. :wink:
