Anyway to loosen the tension of the spring, I have it compressed in a vise right now, try to give it a little more flex.

firstly a big thanks to caleb who has sent me two new boards from the US I have 2 springs from Hobie in the UK but they dont seem right very very stiff I'm not sure they have enough flex in them anyone encountered a problme with these? |

It seems REALLY stiff - so stiff in fact that it went through my hull on the inside...great. WTF... Any suggestions on losening the tension..or fixing a hole on the inside of the centerboard box where the spring went through? I am a bit salty right now... |

They are REALLY stiff...so stiff in fact that it just blew through the inside of my hull...the spring just went into the hull from the centerboard box...any thoughts ideas on how to losen the spring OR fix an inch hole in my centerboard box...just a bit salty right now...thanks. |

It's a fairly easy fix - I had to do it on my nearly-new (2007) boat. Start with the boat upside down; the board and spring removed. Rough up the area around the hole and remove all the loose material. Lay in 2 or 3 patches of pre-resined glass, about 1.5 inches bigger than the hole all around. Before the resin goes off, place the spring (protected with plastic wrap) in the pocket area to mold the glass to shape and leave it there until the resin goes off. Smooth out any rough areas and test the fit of the board/spring. Sand down any interferences. |
