i have a 17 that has a tamp w/welded seams, but no foot straps.

that's kind of a problem 'cause until I get the wings fixed it'll be hard to heel out w/o straps!

IF it is a factory tramp... and I ADD homemade straps... is that class legal ?

thanks,

There are no hiking straps on the stock Hobie 17 tramp.

In the Hobie 17 Class Rules:
Quote:
6.4 Hiking straps may be added to the trampoline or aluminium crossbars.

So, you're OK to add the straps.

I can't imagine sailing the 17 without the wings, though. Talk about a low, wet ride!

Got to agree with Mbounds, it would be beyond wet. Couldn't imagine being out there without my wings unless it was really calm.

I have DiKane foot straps on my wings screwed to the tubing, and I think you would be better off sewing a web fabric on the wing tramp fabric at the outside tubing location.Make your foot straps by leaving a "pocket" to fit your foot with wet suit booties on.My have weathered poorly and are pricey too. They are 20 years old too.I have 3 per side, one for each trapeze I have.Only one foot needs to be in that pocket and the other floating as needed for balance.
Good Luck,Bill 404 21SE 8)

great, thanks for the replies.

i'll have to put straps on the tramp so I can go on test sails until I figure out how to get the wings repaired...

In reality, I hope to be trapped out the entire time! :D

(one wing is bent/crimped pretty well and has a gash/opening at the bend)
