This is a US Navy link showing an animated image of the hurricane approaching me right now. The predicted path enjoys "...numerical guidance in exceptionally close agreement... to make landfall...as a 100+ knot system.
My house is 16.24S, so the future holds some uncertainty right now. My 17, newly completed but un-sailed is at risk.

Get it as far inland as possible, clear from trees and under shelter if possible. Remove the trampoline and tie everything down - twice.

Storing it inside a well-built garage or house is best.

Would partially filling hulls with water help hold that boat down? :?:

Filling with water was suggested, but might take years to dry out, and anyway, there is something fundamentally wrong with a boat full of water. Thanks for the suggestion though Bill.

What I have done is retrieve the boat from the club as suggested by MBounds. Just as well, because the club is about 5 feet above sea level, and the predicted surge is around 10 feet. Winds around 125 mph, maybe more.
It will sit in my shed, and hopefully the shed will stay put. This blow will go well inland before it peters out, so I will sweat it out 5 miles inland.

Good luck with the storm and stay safe, we will be thinking of you guys.

I saw some of the destruction from Katrina in Southern Mississippi (USA) and it is amazing the power of these storms.

What town on the map are you located in? I am also guessing that with the recent floods this will hit the inland areas especially hard.

Chet3 thanks for the thoughts. We are 16.25 S, and 5 km inland, not a town really, more a community named Forest Creek. The good news (for us) is that the storm has slipped to the south somewhat, but we are still expecting serious wind and much damage. Local storm surge estimate is ~13 feet, accompanied by heavy rain deluge. Surge and flood not a risk to us but we do have a hefty hill behind us that may well deliver some trees towards us.
Importantly, the boat is tied down hard in the shed, which should be good unless the shed moves away. Forgive my wry humour please, the shed is strong, and rated for strong wind but this will test the limits of it's design.

This is the most recent track map: http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml & is updated 3 hourly.

We do appreciate everyone's thoughts.

Cheers

Yeah I saw this radar image this morning. It's huge. Its nearly hitting the Australian mainland yet its wind effects stretch past Fiji!!!

NEWS reports states its just slightly smaller than Cyclone Katrina.

It's 11:30pm EST and the wind is pretty fierce. A few trees down, lots of branches and a bucket load of noise. Our house is on poles, and shakes a bit in the strong gusts - a little unsettling. But somehow the sat dish is surviving...
Still, we are getting it easy compared to folks further south who are taking a serious hammering.

It was a windy night, but we were, as it turns out, spared the worst of it. It veered south and struck the coast about 120 miles away. No reported loss of life yet.

The boat is OK! No damage at all. House is good too, no damage. But the landscape is totally changed. Many trees down and there is a carpet of stripped leaves covering the ground. All vegetation has been thinned out. Many weeks of clean-up in front of us.
Neighbours OK as far as we know, we all lost trees and the roads are cut of course. You can get some early accounts by logging into Google News Australia.

Not an experience I would want again, it was pretty scary. Thanks to all for your concerns and best wishes.

We are glad you and your neighbors are OK. I am amazed that you have internet access.

Good luck with the cleanup.
