Hi,

I am new to this board and to Hobie cat. I have a h17 that I managed to break to comptip off the mast. The break is clean and flush. The outside of the comptip has no damage.

I need some advice on how to put the comptip back on the mast. The stuff inside seems to be epoxy/rasin? Anyone has done this before? The boat is old and I am in Thailand so the cost of the new comptip+shipping+tax would be too much and not worth it.

thanks
juck

You could probably repair this, but it won't be pretty - or work exactly like the old one.

Did the break occur right at the aluminum / Comptip joint?

Yes, the break is at the joint between aluminum and the comptip.
I am thinking of taking out the stuff inside and make a new joint with foam/epoxy.

yes, the break point is where the aluminum /comptip connect.

You'll need to fabricate a sleeve that can be inserted into the aluminum mast and the Comptip.

Probably best to do this out of epoxy resin and fiberglass.

The sleeve will need to be approximately 0.5 m long; half in the mast and half in the Comptip.

Glue it in with thickened epoxy resin.
