Post subject:  Assembly of Crew Traveler on 17 Sport

Recently bought a 1991 17' Sport and don't understand the assembly of the Clew Traveler. Have picture from 'Hobie Sport Assembly Manual' page 15 but my used traveler has only one end cap (crew side) and lacks the 'screw and nut' sets. My question(s) are: Do I need both end caps? It shows 'CSK. RIVET' pointing to the bottom of cap. If I need two, can't image installing it with a rivet on the tack side. If I attempt to install screws on both ends, the sail doesn't clear the holes. I'm assuming I need only the crew end cap and then 'screw and nut' on the tack side. Sorry, new to sailing and don't know anyone to ask. Any help would be appreciated.

You may have an old traveler with a newer sail. The screws hold the track in place. The caps cover sharp edges. Older sport sails had a shorter rope (yellow) and were drilled for the two screws.

Thank you. I will order a new crew traveler for their latest sail as my sail is less than 5 years old.

It's called a "Boomlet" now. It's a section of the boom extrusion and now pins to the clew plate to hold it in place on the rope. One attachment point for the blocks. Not adjustable.

Thanks Matt .. read the article on page 12, most of it talked about post 1995 17s while mine is pre-1995. I do have the older Sport equipped with HARKEN main traveler track (as mentioned in the mag and do have the new sail already.. it says that I may(?) need to convert to the class legal 'Tracker' travel system (not included).. I'm not at the point of needing to be 'legal' so I guess what you and the mag while not talking directly to my unique situation is that because I have the new sail, I need to convert away from the old pre-1995 crew traveler to the post-1995 Sport 'Boomlet' Sail Foot ..
Thanks again for your opinion,, do appreciate hearing from other sailors.
