Post subject: | Need a boom cap |
Guys: Does anyone have a boom cap for the gooseneck end on a Hobie 17 boom? Tried to fix it twice and it broke each time. Hobie is saying 3-4 weeks. Doug Snell 832 533 4506 dsnell4 at houston dot rr dot com |

Hi Doug, What's wrong with the cap? If the hole is elongated you can go upto 1/2" diameter pin by boring it out and creating a new pin (that's what mine is). Danny H17, 02, SE San Jose |

Dan: The casting broke and I tried riveting it in a new place and it broke again. I found one at Key Sailing and they are sending it to me. Doug |

Just out of curiousity, what was the cause of the failure... In the 10+ years the boss has kept those kinds of records, he's never had to order one of those castings. Brian C ex H-17 owner |

Guys: I think it was just fatigue. The boat is a 86. I will try to take a pic and post. I drilled in three more holes in a different spot and they pull out again and casting broke again. Doug |

Doug, I have a forward boom cap from a 16. If it will work, you can have it. Let me know (call me if you still have my #, otherwise email me. FYI I dropped my phone in a cup of water today, so leave a VM and I'll call you back. Later, Dave |
