Do the 1984-1987 hobie 17's have the same problem with the hulls breaking as the Hobie 18's?

Don't believe that there were '84 and '85 H-17's. I had one of the first ones in Texas, and it was an '86.

Hobie 17s came out in 1985. No comparison to the Hobie 18 issues at the time. The boats were made light, with 6 oz glass. We have since made many changes to beef it up. 8 oz glass, reinforcements around the wing tubes... There was nothing wrong with the early 17s, but you have to care for them a bit more than the typical Hobie. The changes were more to make them handle abuse than because of any problems.
