I made the jump from my 16 to a 17. I realize how fragile the hulls are. I trailer sail all the time and float on and off at boat ramp. My question is if I install hull cradles on all 4 support points of the trailer can I get on the boat to step the mast while on the trailer? Can I get away with just 2 cradles forward?
Thanks.

The 2 cradles forward are necessary and enough. If you have currently 4 rollers, as I did, you can double up the rollers on the back for more support and it is easier getting the boat on and off than having 4 cradles.

My understanding is that a typical setup consists of cradles at the front and rollers at the rear. The rollers at the rear assist in moving the cat off and on the trailer. The cradle at the front provides the necessary support when stepping the mast i.e. placing weight on the cat and also during trailing. Only having cradles is fine but makes a hard job of moving your cat on/off. Only having rollers will over time inevitably destroy/damage your hulls. There are pictures online of hulls that have collapsed on the point where they sit on the rollers.
