My son just bought an H-14 (today) that I went to look at. I have a 16 and bought it new in '85 so I know Hobies well in general. The 14 is a 1981 according to the number scratched into the transom and is a turbo (It has a jib and a dolphin striker). I read here where the turbos were not factory built that early. Is that true? The dolphin striker is an elongated triangle casting with round holes and the connection to the pylons is with a cable, not rods. Does this all sound like it should be? Hulls seem to be in good shape in need of cleaning but sound solid when "thumped" looking for soft spots. I need to find instructions for rigging and hope that I can find it online on the Hobie site. I don't see how the jib sheets are set up since there is nothing but one small jam cleat on the crossbar. The owner told me that they somehow fasten to area around the pylons. Any advice would be appreciated.
That's an aftermarket dophin striker, but perfectly acceptable.
The stock Turbo has two large grommets in the trampoline on either side, in line with the shroud attachments. A wire or non-stretch line is strung between the shroud attachment plates, under the trampoline. The jib blocks are then shackled on to the wire, through the tramp.
However, some non-stock turbo kits had jib tracks on the front crossbar, like 16s.
