can a 14 be used as a turbo without a dolphin striker?

Hello - fella near here has a 14 with jib for sale, but from the photos he sent, I can't see a dolphin striker. I can't see any signs of trap wires, either.

If the boat has been sailed as a turbo, does the lack of a striker mean the boat may have been weakened, or does that depend on whether it was trapped?

I think the striker was mostly for the trapeze, so if you don't trap... may be less of an issue. The striker is easy to add though (shown in the Hobie catalog).
