14 Turbo ..
Hull numbers "M80H" means late 1980, as I understand it ... but the Turbo was not introduced until 1982.

Are there any clues as to whether this is a factory-turbo'ed or a retrofit ?

Also, "CCMB" ... is that "B" a 14 or 16 model designation?

Now, about the turbo part - does this description sound like a post-production modification? (I have photos, but not sure how to post them) -
The dolphin striker down-strut is A-shaped and mounts to the front crossbar with a "saddle" fitting. The diagonal rod mounts into the corner castings with what appears to be some kind of universal joint on each end.
Roller furler appears to be part of the forestay/jib wire, not a separate rig in addition to the forestay.

Oh yeah ... this boat has Harken main blocks ... were they original equipment (or a later modification by the owner)?

I'll probably need to replace the trap shock cords ... any suggestions on what to use, given the reality that there is no decent marine supply house locally ? Plain old bungie cord, or marine-grade (if there is such a thing)?

I have an odd problem as well. My two hulls have the same serial number but different model years and months of manufacture.

The two numbers are CCMB4574M78A and CCMB4574M77C

How can something have two dates of manufacture but the same serial number? I guess its possible that the previous owner replaced a hull and somehow miraculously the serial number is the same but that seems a little out there.

Or was the engraver just high on gel coat fumes?

Any ideas?

B is the original Hobie 16 designation. (A is a 14) Based on that, you're looking at a 16, not a 14. Distinguishing feature between them is that the shrouds on a 16 attach to the deck lip on the hull; on a 14, they attach to the sidebars.

another Distinguishing feature is the 16 will be about 2' longer than the a 14

Time to dig out the tape measure .... maybe I need to measure the mast too ... The jib blocks are mounted in the tramp, like a Turbo & the side stays are attached to the tramp frame .... And the serial number looks original, the same on both hulls ... I'll let y'all know ... Thanks

"B" was used on H14, 16 and Hobie One 14 / Holders.

I had a '79 and had a turbo kit added by the now extinct Tampa Sailcraft in '84. You could not tell the difference between a factory turbo and the kit added by them.

It's aftermarket, the turbo kits had the A-frame striker I believe. As for the blocks, Hobie's came with Seaway blocks, that's what mine are. Harken's would be an upgrade, I guess.

Sean - thanks, sounds like I'm seeing the aftermarket dolphin/turbo setup on a 1980 boat And greetings from south Georgia. If do I buy this 14T, I won't need the Harkens I bought to replace the Seaways on the 14 I had years ago ... would a set of Harkens be of any value to anybody here? I can order stuff from Annapolis Performance Sailing and it arrives within 2 or 3 days via UPS Ground.

Any ideas? Sometimes the year wasn't engraved until the boats left the factory, but that's a more recent phenomenon. Serial numbers could be coincidence, but unlikely. It was probably a simple mistake. The newer hull could be a warranty replacement hull, that's supposed to have the identical number as the original. It could have been that the guy had been engraving "78A" all day long and forgot that this one was supposed to be a "77C" instead.
