Advice wanted again please on separating the tramp frame from the hulls. The bolts came out easily but cannot ease the frame off the uprights. I assume the main reason is aluminium oxide between the two mouldings but
1. Do I need to free off the dolphin strimer crossbar before trying to separate and
2. Has any one tried putting a 10 inch wide plank on the hulls and using a small jack to provide more force. I will try and sock the joint with WD40 before doing that.

Thanks

David

Make sure one of the previous owners didn't epoxy the frame onto the pylons. A lot of sailors do this to improve rigidity. I wouldn't recommend the jack. The fiberglass might give before a severely corroded or epoxied joint. Have you tried heat?

Heavy sand filled "Dead Blow" or Rubber mallet. Hard swings in an upwards direction to impact each corner casting one at a time. Fore and aft for each hull in balance. It takes SIGNIFICANT blows typically... and many of them.

Second Matt's comment - my 16 was a bear and it is hard to angel the mallet without hitting the hulls etc on the way up so i had a piece of 2x4 wrapped in cloth that i put against the casing and hammered the bottom of the plank - works like a charm
