Hey gang, I'm new at sailing this particular boat, used to sail a Catamaran 14. This boat is an older model, not sure of the year but doesn't have a jib (new challenge for me). I was wondering, I seem to loose allot of wind when the mast twists, can it be locked (tied) in place. There are two small holes at the base that suggest it could be... Second question, I'm not used to having a traveller, the manual I received shows cleats that don't exist for locking it in place. I sail with it in the center clamped down, will this give me maximum speed/ catch max wind or should I be letting it out and watching my head if it decide to come back at me :o

Thanx,
Rick

:D Welcome to the world of H14 !

The hole at the bottom of the mast is for the mast step link. You don't want the mast to stay fixed, but rather rotate as to give the sail a nice wing profile; so forget about tieing it down.

For your second issue, download the "HobieU.pdf" document (really good stuff ) on the following page:

 http://www.hobiecat.com/experience/learn.html

Although it will also show info for other Hobies, it will explain what position is best for which course and give you a reference document for other issues.

Good luck & have a great Hobie day !

Hubert

The old 14's had a cleat on each side of the aft crossbar to control how far you wanted your traveller to be off center.
Then came the center cleat with just one rope instead of two. Do you have info on when to take the car in and when to let it out?
