Post subject:  H14T spinnaker?

Just wondered if anyone has tried fitting an asymmetric spinnaker to a H14? I'm thinking about trying it just for fun. Any advice appreciated!

I haven't seen a chute on a 14, but there are a number of hooters (large, furling gennaker) out there:

Interesting, do you know the dimensions of the foot and leech? I take it they go back to the standard blocks through the tramp. Do you keep the existing forestay and put a second up at the front? I'm guessing so because you don't want the mast being supported from the pole.

Just realised the hooter goes to the mast head. So I'd need the luff measurements too!

I don't know any of the specifics. Dan Berger in VA Beach did those two. Just Google his name + Hobie and you'll find him.

My ears were ringing!

OK, the tang is a foot below the mast head. the pole is 10.5 feet long. I had it set up on two different boats, one was uni and the other was Turbo, so either set up would work. I would not suggest flying the Hooter, jib and main because that would be a lot of line on the tramp.

Besides, the Hooter blocks are in the same place as the Turbo blocks. I used Oxen blocks for my Hooter because the standtard Turbo blocks had cleats and you never want to cleat that thing.

It is a pretty easy install--I'm selling the whole kit, so evrything is included (except the Oxen blocks). It's priced at about a third of what you would pay for it new and I've figured out all the kinks. It has been tested, too!!

10.5 feet - blimey! Still playing about with the idea, looking for a suitably sized sail from another dinghy, rather than having one made. Thanks for the info

Ok.... I have an extra jib and furler and wonder (photoshop time) what would happen if I tried the following?

Think this would be of any benefit until I could afford a real hooter?

Thanks,
Mike

First of all, you would have issues getting from one side to the other without a tramp!

But really, the second jib would have to be recut for the new sheeting angle and you would have to figure out where to mount the control blocks. You might be able to get away with it by mounting it up higher on the mast.

It would probably be a lot more work than it is worth.

Sell the second jib and furler and you'll be half way towards the price of the Hooter set up!

I sold the whole boat on Saturday and now I'm dreaming of adding a spinnaker to my new to me 1990 Hobie 16. I just needed a little bigger boat. The hobie 14 was fun, but with me at 240lbs I was sitting in the middle of the tramp to fly a hull

Now I will be cruising in the Hobie 16 forum all winter :D

The new boat.

Hi,
I would like to have some help.
I make a spi for my H14... Haing some problems attaching the pole to the front beam. Can you post some picts about it, or could you explain how to make it? I do not have room because of the mastbase...
The other question how to fix it go the hulls on the front side? I have to connect it to the place where the forestay goes?
Thank you your help!
