Post subject:  Heeling Issue...

I recently purchased my first ever Hobie cat, a 1984 14 footer and am extremely excited.

Upon purchasing the previous owner said he was never able to get in on one hull or heeled over completely, instead the down wind hull goes under water. UPon takin git out the first time under heavy winds i noticed the same thing.

This is troubling to me as I know it is not performing as it should and something is wrong but I have no clue as to what.
Thus i have come here for help.

Thanks

How much do you weigh?

The optimal weight for a 14 is ~ 150 lbs. Over 200# and the leeward hull starts to submarine.

Try raking the mast further aft, sailing a bit closer to the wind, pointing higher, sit aft... that all raises the bow of the lee hull.

When I started sailing my 14 I thought you fly hulls when going very fast, which to me meant broad reach. I noticed that when reaching the leeward bow would threaten to dive. I raked the mast back and that stopped it but the hull still wouldn't fly I then sailed into a close reach and up she came, so smooth you don't even really notice it happening. So you need to sail somewhere around the close reach point of sail.
