Sounds like an idea to me- I might try it also.

I'm thinking of a magnet(s) on the stick at the point just short of the point of connection between the crossbar and rudder arms, where there would be an attracting magnet to 'lock' the stick parallel with the crossbar- kind of like using a broom hanging bracket to lock it on (which I've seen).

Magnets do not stick to aluminium, so you'll need a ferrous metal for it to stick too.

Duh...
The idea is for magnets to stick to- or at least attract to, by being inside the hotstick, other magnets! The magnets themselves will be attached to the aluminum tubing via adhesive or clamping. See?
The new magnets want to stick to each other like you wouldn't believe.

Yup, as long as the polarity is right.

Dealing with one tiller extension in a tack is a pain, do you really think two will be easier? I can just about guarantee it will make things more of a pain. Plus it'll make tacking more difficult on a boat that is already not that easy to tack well.

I ve been sailing my 14 for over 30 years and never really liked that weird maneuver of passing the tiller extension behind the main.
I also always found that tiller extension too long and cumbersome. It is a hassle on the boat !
What if we hook the tiller extension almost at the outside tips of the tiller crossbar and hook it inwards (either clamp or magnet ).
I am now dreaming about having a two feet long tiller extension in my boat (two of them)
